Country Style Kitchen

When it comes to decorating a home, everyone has their own preferences. However, you would be hard-pressed to find many who do not like the cozy, welcoming atmosphere of a country-style kitchen. For many, the kitchen area represents the heart of the home. This is a wonderful place for the family to congregate to enjoy good food and good conversation. Following are some great tips and ideas on the many ways you can incorporate an old-time country look and charm in your kitchen.

Country Style Brings the Farm to Mind
In a country-style kitchen, you often see a great deal of early American character displayed. This style of décor often brings a farmhouse to mind, and you sometimes find roosters, cows, hens, pigs, and other farm animals on display. Typically, the theme will center on one particular animal. However, it works just as well to use a combination of animals, displaying them in various locations around the room.

Central to the Theme Is the Kitchen Table
A typical country-themed kitchen is one big room. If there’s no separate dining area, the table may actually be in the kitchen itself. This is why it’s essential to have country-style tables and chairs. Cushioned or decorated seats are options for your high-backed wooden chairs. A solid wooden table that still displays the knots from the tree it was made from will add even more old-time charm. With a hutch or buffet, you can complete the furnishings for the room.

Antique Touches Add Charm
Many country-style kitchen accessories can be found at flea markets and garage sales. You can create a look of years gone by at grandma’s house by adding an old butter churn or iron skillet to the décor. Different-sized old cast iron skillets can be hung together on a wall, while an old butter mold is displayed on the countertop. Any item that looks as though it’s from a long time ago will work perfectly for this type of décor.

Carry Through with a Theme
If you pick a central theme for the room, be sure to carry it throughout. If you decide to go with roosters, for instance, then use those roosters everywhere. Add rooster-patterned cookie jars, canisters, hot pads, dish towels, clocks, and more.

Coordinate Your Windows
Curtains that coordinate with the colors in the room should be used for the windows. In a country decorating theme, common colors include golden yellow, blue, dark green, brown, and rustic hues such as dark red or rust. Use a solid-colored curtain, or you might also choose a pattern that goes with the rest of the décor. If you like, wood shutters are also a great fit with this decorating style.

Choose Lighting with Charm
Nothing adds more charm than a wrought-iron chandelier. Although most chandeliers wouldn’t work in a country décor, this style is neither too elegant nor too dressy. When you hang this type of fixture over the table, it will add to the cozy and comfortable feel of the room.

For a finishing touch, place a basket filled with pine cones and other natural foliage or fresh fruit in the center of the table. Now your charming country kitchen is complete! A country style can bring not only charm and beauty but the warm of family gatherings into your home.
