Entertainment and relaxation are pretty easy to come by in the family room; here people can put together a jigsaw puzzle, play cards, watch television, listen to music or just unwind. Add family-themed accessories
Using items that are important and meaningful to the family is a must. Put lots of family photos up on the walls, and even feature some crafts that your children made in school. If you took any great photos during a fun vacation you can display them on a coffee or sofa table; if your family loves playing chess or checkers you can also leave a set sitting out on a gaming table. All these things are great for making the room look lived in and cozy.
Choose one central theme for the room
Does your family love watching movies and listening to music? You should make the room resemble a theater or music room. Everyone needs a good view of a big screen television, arrange the sofa and some club chairs in a manner that allows them to view the television. Dividing the room in sections might also be a good idea; you could make a section for the avid reader and another for the gamers in the family.
It would be a great idea to leave half the room open as a game room if your family enjoys playing pool, ping pong or foosball. This works really well, especially if the family room is large.
Use the colors you love
In most rooms that guests congregate you want to keep the colors on the relaxing and calm side. Anything goes in the family room. Whether you choose to go with green, gold and rust or bright red and pale yellow, the choice is yours. Going with a color like chartreuse or purple isn’t for everyone, you should really just play and experiment with color to see exactly what will work for you.
