Body Plumage
What animal is this (reposted)?
Okay, I saw it on tv last night. It looked and sounded like a peacock, but it was black/dark brown and it lacked the magnificent plumage. The body, I guessed looked more like a peahen but it had it’s feathers raised in a way that looked strictly male. It was also in the snow (if that helps). What is it?
I’ve already searched peafowl (to no avail).

This IS NOT the animal I saw. This picture is ONLY to show what the body shape looked like. NOT the colors or species. YES, I know this picture is a peahen.

I’m not sure where it was filmed, but it was all one color- the dark brown or black.
The Ptarmigan has a very similar profile to that of a peacock, makes similar sounds, can have a wide range of colours for its plummage including what you describe and is found in arctic regions, explaining how you seen it in snow. Have a lok at the pics on wikipediand tell me what you think. By the way, small point, but that pic you supply is a young peacock not a peahen.
