How do you take that blue tone photo that Evanescence’s album was done in?

I’ve seen many people on myspace and facebook with this “type” of photo, so I’m assuming it’s not difficult to do. Just how do you do it though?

Well they’re probably digitally produced, but what they’re mimicking is called a cyanotype. It’s actually a type of alternative photography that’s been around since the mid 1800′s,
What they likely did is desaturate a color image in Photoshop or some other editing program and then adjust the color balance sliders for blue and cyan for the exact tint they wanted, and maybe played with contrast a bit too.
The original cyanotype process was a chemical process that involved hand sensitizing a piece of paper with the cyanotype solution, Making a full size transparent negative that you then exposed as a contact print in the sun for maybe 10-20 minutes, and then washed in a sink or tub and let dry. Archaic, time consuming, but you could get some cool effects. Some larger photo stores still sell the solution for those of us who are crazy enough to want to play with alternative processes.
