How To Decorate a Pre-Teen Boy`s Bedroom

Designing a kid’s bedroom is complete joy! When allowing yourself to look past rules and expectations, you can allow your inner decorator to become imaginative when designing a unique room for the youngsters in your household. If you’re stumped on how to go about decorating a room for a pre-teen boy, here are some creative suggestions that he’ll love both now and later.

Creative Color Palettes: It’s not Just about Blue Anymore!
Blue is a great color for a boy’s room, but it can be a little predictable and boring when used by itself. Blue is the greatest color for complementing primary colors. When you mix blue with more intense colors while accentuating those colors with white keeps the look inviting and lends a contrast. Now add a pattern to the color mix for even more fun and vibrancy. Mixing a pattern is easier than you think; the key is to find patterns in the same scale and same intensity. This is where lighter colors comes in because white works as an equilibrium and backdrop for brighter colors. You can blend imposing intense circular patterns alongside large buffalo plaids or plaid if they are comparable in dimension and color infusion; blend patterns with at least one common color. It’s also fun to repeat a pattern throughout the area that is introduced by the decorative scheme: For instance with a NASCAR theme black and white checkered patterns are part of the logo and they can be replicated in an area border, bedding and wall art.

When choosing themes don’t feel that you are limited to characters and cartoons: Any item can be the inspiration for a color palette and theme: A collection of toy soldiers, model trains, favorite sports and games, or a poster from a favorite zoo or planetarium.

Choose simple wood furniture that will grow with your son. The basics – a bed, dresser, mirror and bedside table will last a long of time and additional accessories are easy to add in as his requirements and preferences change over the years. In a few years he may need a larger desk, bookshelves and adult size work chair, but those items may be beyond his size and needs at this point. Affordable or second-hand pieces of these added items could be the best method to go now. You may be surprised by how much difference paint and fabric will do to bring each of the design fundamentals together in a bedroom.

Sons tend to amass a never ending supply of stuff as the years go by and it will be simpler on you if you make it effortless for your child to get in control of his belongings. Make the best use of closet space by installing hanging rods where he can reach them; a high and a low rod is fine if you want to place out-of-season or dress clothes that he doesn’t often wear on the upper rod. Nothing is quite as handy as a bank of shelves that is added at one end of the closet to store wardrobe basics like shoes and folded jeans. Consider wall hooks for organizing articles that he needs on a frequent basis, such as satchels or sports equipment.
