Butterfly Quilt: How To Choose The Right Butterfly

To me, butterfly quilts are one of the most beautiful sorts of quilts around. Sure floral ones are nice and patchwork ones look quite pretty, there is, however, something about a quilt that has a butterflies on it that actually sings to me.

It doesn’t really matter whether you have one large butterfly or a number of butterflies in a natural setting, this sort of quilt will always look great. But before you rush headlong into making one of those though, make sure you pick the correct butterfly to enhance that new project.

You should be having a look at the base color of your quilt, and picking a color for your butterfly based off that. To make sure you get it perfect, you need to consult a color wheel (a fast search in Google will turn one up).

Look at complementary colors, as an example if you were making a blue quilt, your complementary colour would be orange as its on the opposite side of the colour wheel.

If you wanted a rather more subdued effect, you’d go for Equivalent colors, such as purples, pinks and greens, which are right next to blue on the colour wheel.

And for those of your considering it, a rainbow butterfly works very well on a monochromatic backing, so a black of white quilt.

Next, choose whether you want one gigantic butterfly or a number of smaller butterflies. An enormous butterfly can have a very significant impact, truly bringing a room together when put on a quilt. Smaller butterflies are way more subtle and can add a calm or tranquil atmosphere to a room.

Also , I’ve seen a butterfly quilt that had just some of the winged beauties hidden away in the corner. It actually did make the bed look beautiful. So that the butterflies don’t have to control the design to have a great effect.
