Blank Corrugate
Is it possible for guinea pigs to be afraid of climbing a ladder?

I have four guinea pigs in a two tier cage. They’ve been in it for over a month now, after being in a single tier cage before hand. Three of my piggies took to the ladder the first day and take great pleasure in running up and down. The fourth refuses point blank to go up the ladder. No matter how far up it I put her (even to the extent of being at the very top, basically in the top tier) she turns around and scuttles back down.

I’ve covered the ladder in corrugated cardboard to give them better grip, put treats at various points up it, but nothing will entice the final piggie upstairs.

Is it possible she’s simply afraid to journey upstairs? Are there any other tricks I can try to encourage her? She’s going to end up lonely downstairs all the time!!

Thanks

Answer to your question. Is it possible for humans to be scared of ladders? (answer, yes for I am). Animals can have the same fears we do. If she still doesn’t want to go up despite the fact that the others are, she clearly doesn’t want to. Give her time, and if she still doesn’t, if curiousity doesn’t win, yes, she is scared. Let her do this her own way.
