Are beet leaves that are red (as opposed to green) edible as well?

Just the other day, I purchased some beets, but the leaves are a dark red color, and not green. I would like to cook them, but I am pregnant and want to make sure they are safe. Also, if they are safe, what do they taste like?

All parts of the beet are edible, including the leaves. I’d cook them like spinach.
