Creative Ideas For Functional And Fun Dollhouse Bookshelves

Dollhouse bookshelves make a perfect addition to any little girl’s room because they serve two very important purposes.  First, dollhouse bookshelves serve as a prized toy, and secondly, as a functional piece of furniture.

When used as a toy this type of dollhouse provides a perfect setting for children to play with their dolls.  They can move their dolls from room to room which stimulates their imaginations.  To further their creativity they can even get involved in decorating the bookshelf rooms.  Although this activity may require a little adult supervision it requires very little effort to give each room its own unique identity.

With leftover fabric remnants you can make draperies which really add “fun” to the dollhouse environment.  Walls can be painted to match the child’s imagination or in keeping with your décor.  And if crafts are not your thing you can purchase dollhouse bookshelves already painted and decorated in a number of delightful styles and colors.

As a functional piece of furniture these bookshelves provide a much needed space for storage of toys, books, and other prized trinkets.  You can also find them in a variety of sizes to fit your space needs.  It is also important to know that these specialty bookshelves often require assembly.  
Although assembly is not usually difficult you may want to ask your vendor for input on what you are getting yourself into.  In fact, many merchants will assemble the project for you but you can anticipate a substantial labor charge for the work.

My favorite piece of furniture that classifies as a dollhouse bookshelf is particularly useful and very attractive.  In this configuration the bookshelves are transformed into a headboard.  Also available are models with footboards.  Again the benefits are play area and storage space.

Another nice touch for the dollhouse bookshelf bed is to add lighting.  There are numerous lighting choices that will really bring the feature to life.

Acquisition of dollhouse bookshelf units is relatively simple.  The hardest part may be making a choice from such a wide variety available on the market.  You can find them in just about any way imaginable.  They can be found in major retail stores, toy stores, hobby shops, antique markets, yard sales, and online.

Then there is the opportunity to make the bookshelves yourself.  And even that is not all that difficult.  One of the easiest ways that I know about is to use old bookshelves, cut off the top, attach a roof and add in some dividers for your own creation.  

About the hardest part of using used bookshelves is that some of the materials are very difficult to paint.  So you may have to spend a little extra time sanding or priming the old shelves to make way for the new.  You can also add trim and affix appliqués to finish off your project.

Dollhouse bookshelves make a great addition to any little girl’s room and with the addition of a headboard and footboard you have found an excellent and easy way for creating a basic theme that your child will love.

So what we are really talking about here is something more than just a toy. Dollhouse bookshelves are also furniture pieces that can be as exquisite and “expensive” as you want.  Most important they are rugged enough to hold up for child’s play.
