Does a person ruin the value of a poecelain antique by “cleaning it up”? Also copper is blue like a penny.?

Couple questions: found a rare porcelain piece w/copper base. Sould I clean them? Where do I go to find $ value. I only know this piece was produced ‘before’ the artist became famous. There are no other known pieces of this type out there so I don’t know where to go to find it’s value. Plus, it was found in a garage and is dirty and was neglected. Where do I start?? Find an appraiser or clean it up first?

Find an appraiser FIRST! Usually, cleaning it up will lower its value…as many times, especially with porcelain, the cleaning process damages it. IF it really needs cleaning, please look into taking it to a restorer, or at least consulting one.
